One of Johnny Boy's favorite author's, Patricia Engel, will be reading from her FIRST novel at Books & Books tomorrow. Her first book Vida, (a New York Times Notable Book of 2010 and finalist for the PEN/Hemingway Fiction Award) a debut collection of short stories, made me fall in love with her writing, the way she makes the reader feel the intensity of love and yearning, and no doubt, It’s Not Love, It’s Just Paris will do the same. I mean who has the remarkable writing genius Junot Diaz write rave reviews on not one, but two books 🙂
According to the synopsis, "It’s Not Love, It’s Just Paris is a spellbinding love story, a portrait of a Paris caught between old world grandeur and the international greenblood elite, and an exploration of one woman’s journey to distinguish honesty from artifice and lay claim to her own life." This book seems to be the quintessential coming of age book in Paris, a place that I have loved over the years. I can't wait to be brought back to Paris without taking that pesky long flight!
The reading is tomorrow, Tuesday, August 5th at 8pm at Books and Books Coral Gables (265 Aragon Avenue | Coral Gables, Florida 33134) I suggest getting there early because she is not only a resident of South Florida with a a huge fan base here, but she has garnered rave reviews already for It's Not Love, It's Just Paris. If you can't make it tomorrow, you can purchase the book here.
