This Saturday, February 28th, The Alma Dance Theater, led by choreographer Marissa Alma Nick, will perform a site specific program in response to Paula Crown’s outdoor installation, TRANSPOSITION: Over Many Miles in the Design District. The performance will not only merge the beauty of art and dance, but engage the audience and encourage them to become part of the performance and interact with the installation.
The Alma Dance Theater is a conceptual performance company; physically activating space, installation and pieces of visual art through collaboration while TRANSPOSITION features a 25’ x 6’ x 4’ PERforation sculpture from the series by Crown, based on a 3D derivation of torn edges of sketchbook paper. The sculpture is on 3,200 square feet of constructed flooring based on a landscape drawing from Crown’s Africa Drawings (2010).
The performance is free and open to the public. An Open Bar is at 7:30pm and the performance starts at 8PM at 39th Street and NE 1st Avenue (outdoor corner lot across from Tom Ford)
